Woodbury Lane
Habitat: Non-Native Grassland and Pasture, Marsh, Mudflats
Best Birds: A phenomenal vagrant trap, particularly for flycatchers with records of multiple western and southern species. On the west side of the road, short of the barn is a seasonally flooded field that can be excellent for shorebirds. This field or the pond east of here can be a spot to see Sora and Wilson’s Snipe. Hayfields here can have Bobolink, Eastern Meadowlark, Sedge Wren, and Dickcissel. Fields also have Northern Harrier and Rough-legged Hawk. Further south around the turn there are several small ponds to search for waterfowl and shorebirds. The weedy fields are good for sparrows.
Directions: On east side of Ashland, take 11th Ave E south, follow past bend and turn right on Woodbury Lane, a dead-end road. (46.57153 -90.84367). Stay on road, all land is private property. Beware trucks occasionally hauling to old landfill area. The most interesting habitats are at the end of the road, south of the southmost farm.
