Maslowski Beach

Maslowski Beach

Habitat: Open Water, Beach

Best Birds: This is the best local site for geese, with Snow Goose, Ross’s Goose, Cackling Goose, and Greater White-fronted Goose possible in fall in flocks of Canada Geese, and the most reliable spot locally for shorebirds. Although numbers are small, anything can stop for a short time including Ruddy Turnstone, Dunlin, Semipalmated Plover, Black-bellied Plover, and American Golden-Plover. Gull diversity is generally low, but a good spot for Bonaparte’s Gull and rarities are possible including Franklin’s Gull, Sabine’s Gull, and Lesser Black-backed Gull.  This site can be good for waterfowl March–December. In fall, a distant diver flock is usually present, with good chances at Surf Scoter, White-winged Scoter, Black Scoter, and Long-tailed Duck. Pacific Loon is seen most falls on the bay. Common Tern are present during summer, with Forster’s Tern and Caspian Tern possible in season. This is a good spot in fall for Lapland Longspur, Horned Lark, American Pipit, and Snow Bunting.

Directions: On the west side of Ashland off Hwy 2. (46.58302 -90.91917). A lakefront walking path runs from here east into town.
