First and Second Landing

First and Second Landing

First Landing, Ashland

Second Landing, Ashland

Habitat: Open Water.

Best Birds: Scope the lake at these stationary points for waterfowl. First Landing is an excellent spot in the fall for Surf Scoter, White-winged Scoter, and Black Scoter and can have large concentrations of Horned Grebe in migration. There is the possibility for finches like White-winged Crossbill, Pine Grosbeak, or Evening Grosbeak moving or stopping along the lakeshore

Directions: East of Ashland, north of Hwy 2, First Landing is at the end of Johnson Road. Beware the road ends suddenly in a cliff above the lake. Scope from the dead end. (46.62344 -90.80152) Second Landing is at the end of Reykdal Road 46.63091 -90.78036 (Bayfront Road connects the two). Second Landing is a very active boat launch — park and stand in places that do not impede boaters.
