Our White River Marsh field trip starts early (before sunrise) so attendees can experience the remarkable dawn chorus. Sounds from the surrounding marsh typically include owls, woodcock and snipe, Sandhill and Whooping Cranes, American Bittern, Sora and Virginia Rails, and Marsh and Sedge Wrens.  We’ll also search for a variety of waterfowl, raptors, and early warblers and sparrows – and of course any other species we can find.

The group will do a fair amount of walking initially, then car caravan to several other sites within the marsh.  Around mid-morning we’ll stop for a bathroom break in Princeton, then drive to a few other birding sites in the area.  Bring a lunch and beverages if you’d like.  This field trip typically lasts until noon or a little after – often ending at Lake Maria.
