Jack Bartholmai, local birder/photographer will present a program at the January meeting of the Horicon Marsh Bird Club on cavity-nesting owls commonly found in Wisconsin (the Barred and the Screech Owls).

Using photos taken in Dodge Co., Jack will talk about the natural history of these owls including a physical description, habitats preferred to live, hunt, and nest; observations of mating, nest site selection, egg laying, incubation of eggs and hatching and fledging of young. The program includes photos of the owl's prey as well as its predatory threats, and competitors for nest sites. There will be helpful tips on how we can assist these owls by preserving snags and natural cavities as well as providing man-made nest boxes, their placement, and design.

If you like Owls you won't want to miss this.
