Bird Club: The Ecology and Decline of the American Kestrel

Wednesday, January 9, 2019, 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

American Kestrel populations are experiencing long-term declines in North America. The causes of the declines are unknown, largely because of insufficient data. William Mueller, Director of Western Great Lakes Bird and Bat Observatory will present the latest data. The Western Great Lakes Bird and Bat Observatory has joined the American Kestrel Partnership, spearheaded by The Peregrine Fund to monitor these birds. The Partnership is an international research network designed to generate data, models, and conservation plans for kestrel habitat and populations at large spatial scales. The two kestrels (one male and one female) from the Center’s Raptor Program will make a special appearance.

Bird hikes will follow presentations when weather is permissible. Young adults and birders of all interest levels are welcome.
