Hey all-

I'm trying to figure out how much we should visit our block, and when! I am hoping to put in enough time this spring because it'll be a little harder for me to get up there next year. We did a late April visit, and we'll probably try for a May visit, camp a few days in area in early June, and go back a week and a half later. We might try for a last July visit to clean up. Does this sound reasonable? Overkill? Not enough? I have a feeling we'll know the block pretty well by the time we're done...

That sounds reasonable. The bulk of atlasing is generally done in June and July, but these early visits are valuable for learning your block and getting some of the earlier species. Pine Siskins are fledging right now, so that's a good early species for people to watch for.

Time will tell whether this is enough or not. Every block is different and birders are different, so the guidelines on visiting blocks and block completion in the handbook are just guidelines. Some blocks can be completed in a single year, others might take more than one year depending how it goes.
