Participants will travel by car caravan touring this extensive grassland habitat to hopefully find a number of the birds that winter there. Greater Prairie-Chicken will be a primary target, and a variety of raptors are often present – including Rough-legged and Red-tailed Hawks, as well as Snowy Owl. Other species often include Common Redpoll, Snow Bunting, Horned Lark, and Northern Shrike. This area is pretty wide open and wind can often be a factor, so dress warmly – even though we likely won’t stray too far from our vehicles. The trip will start at 8:00 AM, and we plan to be done by 11 or 12.
